Pine River suffered a major fire 2 years ago which interrupted production for over a year before they could resume production.
However, I was very saddened to hear that they will henceforth only age to 5 years. Their 7 and 9-year old Cheddars are amazing but will no longer be produced.
9-year old is no longer available, but 7-year old can still be had for a while. Now I'm thinking that the 7-year old is far older than labelled because of the extended interruption in production. I don't know if it ages further once shrink-wrapped or not.
This past week we did our shop and I was amazed to see 14-year old Cheddar in limited quantities on display. Apparently it was siting out back and just recently uncovered. It's priced at $49.99/Kg but the slabs were small so I got a portion for about $10 which I'm holding for a special occasion.
I don't know how much is in stock, but it's pretty hard to get at right now because Hwy 21 is closed more often than not because of our weather.
