I was looking for a quick lunch as I was running an errand on Eglinton E., near Midland when I came upon Swetha Restaurant (2633 Eglinton E.), in a strip mall on the south side. They advertise daily specials which are pictured in the window. As luck would have it, Friday's special was Masala Dosa for $2.99. The food was on display under glass stretching almost the whole length of the place, and there were 4 or 5 tables. I got the dosa special to take out. The friendly server asked me to wait a moment while she packaged the curry and chutney that would accompany the dosa. As I was waiting, I noticed the doughnut-shaped, obviously deep-fried snacks which were also on display. I asked if they were like pakoras and the gentleman replied that they were. I think that they may be called, "Ulundhu Vadai", but really, the name is not necessary to order them...just point. There were 2 types so I got the 3/$l ones rather than the 4/$1 ones since they had more veggie content.
Everything was delicious. The vadai were amazingly light and delicious, full of flavour, but not spicy. Even the tasty curry was mildly spiced, unlike most Sri Lankan food that I've had (Kothu roti, for example). I've included a pic which was taken in my car where I polished off my lunch. Can't wait to go back for some of the other specials or just to try other menu items.
