I've been going to Boreal a lot lately (probably too much!). I think they're getting better and better at their craft. My SO and I were recently out in Vancouver for a quite a while, and we were going to Bella Gelateri, that won an award (In Italy, no less) as the World's Best Gelato (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/07/06/bc-video-gelato-awards.html). Well, my SO and I both think that Boreal is actually better than Bella Gelateria (at least for the chocolate, anyway). They're clearly doing something very, very well. My favorites are the Pistachio and Chocolate, and rarely do I stray.
On a side note - I found out that they use natural oils to make their root beer gelato.
