We've been frequenting Venarello's for some time for Italian pastries (including luscious zeppole year-round) and early Saturday morning espresso, but over the last few months they have renovated, expanded their menu and received their liquor license,
Today we had lunch there and put ourselves in the hands of their chef, Maurizio. Started with octopus, anchovy and potato salad, redolent of lemon and parsley. Next, a plate of linguini with fresh clams and mussels... In a light fresh tomato and white wine sauce. Then out came deep fried squid and shrimp, barely-there dusting of flour. Amazingly non-greasy and presented in a twist of butcher's paper with wedges of lemon.
Espresso coffee to finish as a digestive.
Really lovely people, friendly and warm. Great value and you will feel like you are in Italy. Just close your eyes!
