¡Dios mío! I'm going hug my jamón in Madrid a little harder after seeing those prices. This 24-month ham isn't even a "bellota" ham--the pigs were fed regular feed. On the plus side, under the right atmospheric conditions, a ham keeps for at least six months.

Hungry for Hungarian
Country Style on Bloor, it's a pale shadow of what it once was but they do still have a wooden platter with 2 kinds of schnitzel and sausage on their menu. You asked for passable, it's passable, maybe just slightly better than passable but not much.

Al Premium Supermarket
Checked it out yesterday. It's closer to Warden than Birchmount next to where previously Rona had been.
Didn't have a lot of time to browse but noticed a few things while picking up what I needed. Al comes across as big, with a great selection, reasonable prices and even some good deals. I was really impressed by the steam table variety and am curious about the quality of the take-home food and hope it's not like the salty/starchy/fatty stuff they try to pass off at other grocery stores.
I have serious doubts about the service, which is per the standard Asian grocer where if you want help, you're on your own. This is still where T&T is unmatched. The cashout was cash only.
Overall it was a good experience since generally I find asian markets chaotic and frenzied... Because of the time of day I was there it wasn't crowded so it was kind of laid back not unlike T&T.

Mango Rain Lakeshore Road Clarkson Mississauga
I agree! We've been going to this little gem for a few years. The service can be a little slow, but the food is always fresh and very good.
We've managed to try both the Indian and Thai, very good green curry and pad thai. All the Indian dishes we've had have been successful.
Nice husband and wife team own it.

Hoof Raw Bar
Went a week or two ago just for a couple snacks.. had oysters, cured platter and their bread.
Drinks were mediocre, food was pretty good and price was relatively high. Probably worth going at least once as its a pretty cool atmosphere/vibe, but once is enough for me.

Christmas markets in Ontario, 2012
We took our little guy to the Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery last night, it was awesome. Here are some pics. http://bit.ly/12ckZkn There were some amazing food vendors- Petite Thuet (was bummed they had no pain au chocolate left) poutine, and APPLE FRITTERS... the line for those was bananas. Delicious free hot chocolate as you arrive, and mulled wine was available. It ends this Sunday!

Recommend high-ish end restaurant with excellent vegetarian dishes?
Scaramouche Pasta Bar & Grill offers several vegetarian dishes, and several dishes that can be ordered to become vegetarian dishes: http://www.scaramoucherestaurant.com/sites/default/files/menu/PBMENU%20DEC.pdf
George has a 5 course vegetarian tasting menu for $80, but almost no veg dishes on their regular menu. http://www.georgeonqueen.com/menu/
I enjoyed all the vegetable tapas I ordered at Cava this fall (I tried the swiss chard, the tamal, the cauliflower/squash tagine, the eggplant and the papas fritas). I believe they were completely vegetarian. The salads, bruschetta and goat cheese croquetas are also vegetarian.

ISO Hot roasted nuts
I was just reminiscing about eating macadamias from the Uptown Nut House (used to be just south of Bloor east off Yonge) and I was wondering if there are any places doing hot/warm roasted nuts anymore... (specifically macadamias - but open to others)
Does anyone know of anywhere GTA west to KW that still does this?

Perogies in Port Credit area
I tell ya, there is a new brand of frozen perogies at Starsky's (and elsewhere) that are unbelievable. They are made by a company called Pelman Foods out of Missasauga. They are extremely delicate and as close to homemade as I've tasted. Great flavours too, including blueberry or cherry dessert perogies!
