After dropping off my car for an oil change in the Yonge/Elgin Mills area, I walked around in search of something interesting to eat. We noticed to our surprise, a Mexican Grill & Bar - "Mexican Amigos" at the SW corner strip plaza. ( 10720 Yonge St. ). A Mexican place in Richmond Hill??!! Anyways, the place looked kind of authentic from the outside, so we decided to give it a try!
Once inside the premise, we were greeted by lively Mexican music and friendly 'Mexican' wait staffs that hummed along with it! A pretty good sign that we have ventured into something authentically Mexican!
We ordered the following:
- Sopa Azteca. Tomato broth with morita dry peppers, bay leaf and served with fried tortilla, sour cream, onions, cilantro and avocado.
- Chorizo Tacos. 3 soft corn tortilla filled with Chorizo, topped with onions, cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese and served with refried black beans and Mexican rice.
- Amigos Signature Fish Tacos del Golfo de Mexico. 3 crispy corn tortillas filled with chunks of lightly breaded cat fish topped with shredded cabbage, mixed lettuce, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, house signature sauce and served with Mexican rice and refried black beans.
The food was surprisingly good!! Vegetables were all freshly prepared. Both hard and soft tortilla shells were nicely grilled and served hot. The home made Mexican Salsa 'Pico de Gallo' was very tasty. Chorizo was authentic Mexican and the Breaded fish was piping hot, greaseless and crispy. The refried beans was great, though I can't stand its look! LOL!!
Glad to have this place in ' Oriental/Asian food dominated' Richmond Hill!!
