Went there last night and there were no lineups... Arrived at 7:30 and actually, it was quite empty save for a few tables (I had made a reservation anyway)

Grand Chinese Cuisine Christmas Menu help
Hi Pete: I don't have any first hand experience with Grand or much with take out Chinese in general. However I will comment that high end Chinese food is unlikely to translate well in take-out containers. I would be inclined to suggest looking at a take-out menu from a place like the Mandarin as they are geared for take-out business. We know how CH'ers love the Mandarin! That said, the "Chinatown Special" on Grand's website might be a good starting point. http://www.grandchinesecuisine.com/

Banjara on Bloor- & Madras on Bloor is it worth a visit? New to Bloor and Bathurst and Hungry!
Hey,
It's not your average Indian place, in that it has a Nepalese owner and (as I understand) chef. That being the case, the flavours tend to be a little more muted. This may sound like a bad thing, but the taste profile very closely matches what I ate growing up in India. The spices don't punch you in the face...it's more of a light tap.
If going for their Nepali dishes, I like the Aloo & semee (green beans with potatoes) and Palungo Ko Saag (spinach) or the Kukhura Ko Maasu (Nepalese chicken dish).
Also worth a try is the Choyela and the momo's.
When going there for Indian food, I stick to the tandoori offerings. This is primarily Indian joints can't seem to make curry dishes to my liking (too heavy on oil and/or cream), but also because I love, love, love Tandoori chicken and tikkas (nawabi or haryali).
They do have the thali offerings as well. Good value and good for trying lots of stuff.

The Junction and surrounding areas -- Recommend Me Anything
My favourite budget pizza is just north of the Junction - Pizza Pan. When money's tight this is better than anything in its price range. Wings are decent and incredibly cheap. They just started selling burgers and shawarma and other things but I haven't tried them.

Sabai Sabai - Church & Dundas
other than the starch component and portion size, i'd say that sabai sabai is doing "full" dishes. in fact, i'd say the experience is actually more accurate since asian food is more often eaten family style.
favourites were the chicken wings, morning glory, fried fish, noodle salad, and the sticky rice to calm things down when it got a bit spicy. my fish was really tender and silky, so i'm not sure if that's something that's varying. lots of great fresh flavours.
the papaya salad wasn't as funky as i wanted and the beef salad, while nice, was a bit too spicy for me to enjoy properly. i'm wondering if i can request spice levels for some of the dishes like that. they were unfortunately out of the steamed curry fish which i'm really looking forward to trying.
our service was a little scattered but pleasant.

Kingyo is open
I was there last night with a group of 6. I would say that generally the portions were bigger, but not so much so that you'll be saving a huge amount compared to if you went to Guu. Of course, this could be dependent on the dishes that you order...
Off the top of my head, we had the Karaage, Chicken Wings, Mushroom + Tofu Soup, Uni Shooter (not really sure.. I thought I heard my friend order this, but it came as a rice dish in a stone pot so I'm not exactly sure what it was...), Tako Wasabi, Seaweed Calamari, Stone-grilled Beef Tongue and an almond tofu. A round of drinks (they've only got Asahi on tap right now...) and the bill came to a small ish $114 after tax.
- The general consensus was that the food was very good (although certain things with some dishes needed tweaking perhaps, but since it is only in the first week we figured they are still figuring out the flavours).
- Indeed, some dishes had larger portions than you'd be used to at an Izakaya in Toronto (there were 7 pieces of medium-large sized Karaage).
- Drinks for those who had cocktails were very good. It was a slow/quiet evening so atmosphere was obviously dulled (not sure how it is on a busy night).
- Renovations and overall aesthetics were nice. Communal table with the fish tank was a nice touch
- Parking in the area can be a little bit of a hassle if you're picky about parking spots, etc.
- Location is nice, especially for those coming from Markham/Richmond Hill that take the DVP down because its probably only 5 minutes away from the Bloor exit
- Best dish: Chicken Wings!
- "Worst" dish: Beef Tongue... It was sliced too thick and made it way too chewy... Also found that the stone got relatively cold after cooking about half of the pieces of meat

I think downtownfoodie's soft shell crab description below sealed the deal. I can't even imagine the pairing let alone think of putting that in my mouth. Zen it is. My time just got a whole lot freer, psp, so perhaps we can catch up over some fresh catch.

Is Dining Date Night still working?
I don't see anywhere on the site where there is an explanation for what's wrong, so if you can refer me to where you learned of a retooling I'd like to see that.
I wonder if I could call a participant restaurant directly to see if they'd honor the deal?

Two suggestions.
The falafel at Sababa is arguably the best in this or any other city. Also, the vegan club sandwich at Loving Hut is ridiculously good, and never mind the meat.
