From my experience it's definitely a business strategy. My SO owns a small business and doesn't pay the (high) monthly fees. It's hard to say biased reviews because each day tends to be different for the reviews they decide to filter.
Nice little trick to know though when looking for resto reviews!

Cafe Havana - Oakville cuban food?

Grand Electric
Was it really 45? We go by late on Sundays and they always say it's 45 but it's usually more like 10 or 15.
We go order a drink somewhere and always end up gulping it down as the call usually comes in mid-drink.

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS
Noticed Dunn's was dark at about 9PM this past Saturday. There was nothing on the door but it's probably safe to assume they're done.

Lil' Baci Yonge Street
I've enjoyed their location on Queen East so I'm glad to hear that the new Davisville location is keeping up its end.
It's interesting to see Leslieville/Riverside locations branching out across the city.

Kingyo is open
Was looking at the menu and seems a bit pricier than Guu? How big was your party and how much did you spend?

Anyone been to Guu Izakaya lately?
You could always try Kingyo if you're worried about a wait. Apparently they takes reservations.

Dining with kidney disease
Then yeah, you'll make out like a bandit at Scaramouche. Lucky thing butter seems to be okay.
I'm trying to think of one good Spanish restaurant as an alternative to French. Your father may not miss the potato so much is there are other interesting sides .Any takers out there? Sure, Cava and again you can call to tailor for your needs, but its tapas which may not appeal nor is the decor particularly celebration worthy.

Best AYCE Buffet in Richmond Hill, North York, or Midtown (Started Dec 2012)
Well Fushimi is interesting.
http://www.fushimi.ca/
I just want to say that as with all buffets not all items are great there are hits and misses. This place is where Taste of Japan use to be so they have teppanyaki tables which you can request to sit at and order grilled items. I like the grilled items, I like that the sashimi is served on ice. I find fried items to be so so. I also liked the naruto roll and the walnut shrimp.
One other thing that is interesting about this place is that they have a specials menu that changes very couple weeks.
I also like Osechi japanese cuisine at Commerce Gate in Ricmond Hill. They have a nice variety and interesting decor.

Bravi Restaurant - Elevator Table (Closed)
Hi,
So i tried to reserve the elevator table at Bravi...and was told they no longer offer it due to an "incident"....does anyone know what that incident was? did someone get squashed?
Any other restaurants offer a table/dining experience that is just as unique?
thanks

Have a crew of out-of-towners to feed on Boxing Day and am looking for an upscale restaurant in the East end. Is anything open?

Quinta - delicious Portugese, with a modern twist
My experience was TOTALLY different. A very poor meal. Both mains we tried were completely dried out and one was actually burned. Never returned, so never posted.
There's actually a blog entry (not mine) that clearly shows some of the problems
http://taylorfladgate40906.wordpress.com//?s=quinta&search=Go
Take a look at the cornish hen piri-piri photo - that's just burned!
And the charcuterie was neither interesting in the taste nor the appearance (see the picture in the same blog).

Yes but they are also twice or three times the price. A combo here will set you back $13.

Where is the best Mexican in Toronto?
Anyone try a place on St. Clair West near Oakwood called Tita La Guanaca?? I saw it whilst parking to pick up some stuff from La Tortilleria. They have window signs for pupusas and empanadas but I think they're South American... not sure.

Agree, this is my least favourite bourdain show..but its still my favourite "travel show".
I agree it feels like a show they made him do as they wanted something more travel-ly.

Anyone been to Guu Izakaya lately?
I was there a week ago Sunday (Dec 9th). Place was only half full (it was very crappy outside so not many were braving the freezing rain), but the place still had an energetic fun vibe.
Had :
Takowasabi (Octopus)
Ikapiri (Calamari)
Gyu Tongue (Beef Tongue)
BBQ Pork
Hokke (Mackerel)
All good, but nothing mind blasting. I'd say the Octopus, Tongue, and BBQ were the best of the bunch.
Vodka, soda, fresh squeezed juice (Lemon and Grapefruit) were also very refreshing !
